Virtual Support Group for Parents with Stage IV Cancer

1st & 3rd Thursdays @ 10:30 am PT/11:30 am MT/12:30 pm CT/1:30 pm ET

2nd & 4th Fridays @ 10:30 am PT/11:30 am MT/12:30 pm CT/1:30 pm ET

Parenting with advanced or metastatic cancer is a unique experience. It might feel like no one understands what you are going through, and your loved ones may not be capable of exploring the full breadth of your concerns. This is a safe space to go to all of the places your mind wanders. Connect with other parents who really get it and have their own wisdom to share. There is no judgement or bright siding here–all feelings, questions and experiences are appreciated.

Come to one or all group meetings. These are drop-in groups–you do not need to RSVP each time you plan to attend. Once you register and receive a welcome email you will be on the group list to receive reminders and zoom links until you ask to be removed.

Group meetings are 90 min on Zoom.

If you are interested in additional resource, check out Bright Spot Network’s resources for parents with advanced cancer.

Thursday sessions are facilitated by Bright Spot Network's Director of Programs and Community Outreach, Carissa Hodgson, LCSW, OSW-C.

Friday sessions are facilitated by Deltra James, a single mama to 5 girls who found herself on cancer’s radar at 33 years old despite it not being on hers, due to a lack of knowledge of her family’s medical history. Since receiving a de novo diagnosis of Triple Negative metastatic breast cancer she has cultivated healing through community and advocacy work with a focus on mental/emotional wellness, addressing disparities due to race and income, connecting parents and children to resources to aid in successfully navigating the rocky terrains of the cancer landscape and alleviating death anxiety/practicing death preparedness with patients and their families through her work as a death doula.
